Tomorrow Wisconsin will be holding arguably the most important election in the nation this year — one that will determine control of the state’s Supreme Court.

You may have received one or two or 20 “end-of-quarter” emails this week. That’s because it’s the end of the first full quarter of the 2024 election cycle.

I have a bit of a writing challenge here. (Unlike the other political emails you get, I actually write mine.) That’s why I’m really irked by the ones that start: “Personal.”

What Are “Midwest Values” Anyway?

I gave my political action committee its name, Midwest Values PAC, because I wanted to let people know I believed in the best values that I learned growing up in Minnesota. Hard work. Fairness. Justice.

First, you must have the boots

Thanks to donors like you, we at Midwest Values PAC helped to spoil the GOP’s predicted red wave. It was a huge defeat for the Republican election deniers, crackpots, and conspiracy theorists. As my wife Franni told me the day after the midterms, “It’s like the American people said, ‘Stop it!’”

I had the great honor of meeting Former President Jimmy Carter on a number of occasions. My favorite was hammering nails with him on the northside of Minneapolis at a Habitat for Humanity Project.

Somehow, it’s been 20 years since I started Midwest Values PAC to help Democrats win elections — from progressive organizations to state legislatures to Congress to the White House — who share the values I grew up with in St. Louis Park, Minnesota.

Since 2006, Midwest Values PAC has invested more than $4 million in 341 candidates and organizations — and counting. 

Of course, none of this happens without you (or supporters like you) who care enough to pitch in.

As we mark our 20th anniversary, the work is more urgent than ever. This year, we have a big job: flip the House, take the Senate, and win up and down the ballot at the state and local level.

To mark our 20th year, we’ve set an ambitious goal: 26,000 contributions by Election Day 2026.
