If you’ve followed my career, you know that I have never been a fan of Republicans. In 1995, I wrote Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot and Other Observations. A few years later, Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right.
The point of these books was that The Right was putting out disinformation that was toxic to our democracy. I don’t know what happened with all that.
Well, actually, I do. They have become a party that has ceased good faith participation in the democratic process. Not long ago, the Republican National Committee officially declared the January 6 attack on the Capitol to be “legitimate political discourse.” Yikes!
The Republican Party has destroyed truth. They have destroyed their own party. And they are well on their way to destroying the world’s oldest democracy.
Let me tell you folks this is a crisis time. Our democracy is literally at stake. Now, this is not the most important election in American history. That was 1860.
But these midterms may literally determine the future of our democracy.
