I’m not exactly surprised by this latest report in The New York Times, but I am deeply concerned.

Here are Trump’s exact words (and no, I’m not making this up):
“The Republicans should say, ‘We want to take over. We should take over the voting, the voting in at least many — 15 places. The Republicans ought to nationalize the voting.’”
That’s right. The guy who still can’t accept that he lost the 2020 election now wants to take over elections altogether.
Why is Trump doing this? Because he’s weaker than ever, and he knows it.
His polling is abysmal. His agenda is wildly unpopular. And when authoritarians feel threatened, they don’t try to win people over — they try to rig the system. Controlling elections is what dictators do.
We have to win this election. If we don’t, it may be the last truly democratic one for a long time.
That’s why this cycle, Midwest Values PAC plans to strategically invest more than ever before in the races, causes, and organizations that are doing the real work to win in the midterms and to protect the basic idea that voters, not politicians, choose their leaders.
Thanks,
Al
P.S. Want proof that Trump’s brand of politics is losing — and that Democrats can win? Over the weekend, Texas Democrat Taylor Rehmet won a special election by 15 points in a state senate district Trump carried by 17 points in 2024. That’s a 32-point swing in a district that hadn’t voted Democratic in more than 30 years! Momentum is real, but only if we invest in it.
