If it looks like voter suppression and acts like voter suppression…well, you get the idea.
Every Republican in the House just voted for something called the SAVE America Act. Sounds nice, right? Like it should come with fireworks, a marching band, maybe a bald eagle doing a flyover.
But it’s not about saving America. It’s about saving their own political skin.
In reality, it’s a voter suppression bill dressed up as an “election security” bill — and it will make it harder for eligible Americans to register and vote.
The bill would require people to provide a passport or birth certificate just to register. And yes, you’d have to pay to get those documents. There’s a name for making people pay money in order to vote. It’s called a poll tax. And it’s illegal. For a reason.
It could disenfranchise more than 21 million Americans who don’t have easy access to those documents. And nearly 70 million women who changed their last name after marriage could face extra hurdles because their birth certificate doesn’t match their current legal name.
Republicans know they’re on the path to major losses in November, so they’re doing whatever they can to silence voters and hang onto power. When your ideas are unpopular, you can either change your ideas… or try to change who’s allowed to vote.
Guess which one Republicans picked.
Here’s the good news: we can fight back.
This cycle, Midwest Values PAC is investing more than ever in the races, causes, and organizations doing the real work to protect voting rights, win critical midterm races, and make sure voters — not politicians with wildly unpopular agendas — choose our leaders.

P.S. As the midterms approach, the GOP’s attacks on voting rights will only intensify. And even the Supreme Court may weigh in on the very foundation of the Voting Rights Act. We have to be ready for anything.
P.P.S. To make matters worse, this bill would also force states to hand over personal voter data to Kristi Noem’s Department of Homeland Security. Again, not about security. About suppression.
