I want to tell you a little about my time in Minneapolis this past week. Minnesotans are going through an emotionally rugged period — but they’ve also been remarkable.
Across the state, tens of thousands of people are standing up to armed, masked federal agents, protesting, and volunteering to help immigrant families. The courage is inspiring. But the trauma is real.
I heard story after story. Families too scared to leave their homes. Kids going to school just to sleep because they’re afraid at night. A NICU where half the babies aren’t getting visitors because their parents fear ICE will show up.
But I also saw something else: neighbors stepping up. Volunteers delivering groceries. Organizers helping hundreds of families each week. People training to serve as constitutional observers to hold ICE accountable (I attended a training myself).
That’s Minnesota. When something is wrong, we help each other.
We’ve committed $150,000 to support organizations on the ground providing food, rent and legal support, and emergency aid to families who need it most. After what I saw last week, I know we need to do even more. I’ve identified the ones that I think can do the most good for the most people.
If you can, please donate to help us expand this effort so we can invest even more to support the people doing this critical work.
Thank you for standing with them — and with us.
Al
P.S. We cannot let ICE win. Minneapolis and our cities nationwide must continue to stand strong against Trump and his administration’s racist and violent agenda. And I urge you all to find a way to take action — be it protesting, donating, constitutional observing, or any way that helps people.
