We’re entering the eighth month of the Iran War. We’ve heard it “will only last a couple more weeks” or “an end is around the corner.” A deal is imminent then it’s not. What we do know is it costs the taxpayers about a billion dollars a day and we’re paying record numbers at the gas pump.
Despite having the opportunity to rein in the administration, Republicans have largely cheered on Trump. Now they are trying to fix the damage right before the midterms. Red states across the country are suspending gas taxes for 90 days to lower costs. I wonder why it’s only for 90 days? And Republicans are trying to distance themselves from the war.
Mike Rogers is running for senate in Michigan. Rogers actually bragged, and I quote, that he “was for all of this when it wasn’t very cool to be for all of this.” The guy’s been beating the war-with-Iran drum since the Bush administration. As recently as late July he was arguing against giving Congress any say over how long it goes on.
Ashley Hinson is running for senate in Iowa. She has voted seven times against resolutions designed to rein in the administration. She has said that Iran is “thousands of miles away. It’s out of sight, out of mind.”
Guess what? Both of them (on the same day) said that the war must be brought to an end. So what changed? Maybe they had a change of heart or maybe, and probably more likely, the election is weeks away.
We can’t make them tell the truth. But we can make sure they don’t get the Senate seats they’re currently flip-flopping their way toward. So please, chip in to Midwest Values PAC today so we can keep investing in the candidates who’ll turn the Senate blue and hold these guys accountable — not just when the polling turns, but every day they’re in office.

P.S. The Iran War isn’t the only thing GOP candidates are running against. Maria Elvira Salazar, running in Miami, now has ads saying “some of Trump’s immigration enforcement efforts have gone too far.” “Some” is doing a lot of work there.
