Happy 60th, Medicare and Medicaid!

Today is the 60th anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid. Can you imagine our country without them? Ronald Reagan could have. At the time, he and most Republicans in Congress were against “socialized medicine.” (And so were Southern Democrats who would be Republicans today).

Under the One Big Beautiful Bill, 11 million Americans will lose their Medicaid or ACA coverage. This will shudder rural hospitals and drive insurance costs up for the rest of us. And that’s just the beginning of the ripple effect. And this, of course, is thanks to Trump and the Republicans.

The midterms will be our chance to take back one or both houses of Congress and restore funding to cover those 11 million and make sure they have access to regular care from a doctor. That will improve and save lives.

Midwest Values PAC is dedicated to flipping the House and, screw it, the Senate too in 2026. I am going to make it MVP’s mission to ensure voters remember what’s at stake come next November. But like most missions, they’re best done with others. Please join me.

Thanks,

Al

P.S. LBJ’s legacy is mixed – to say the least. There is Vietnam. But he gave us the Civil Rights Act, the Fair Housing Act, and the Voting Rights Act. So, for today, let’s celebrate Medicare and Medicaid’s 60th birthday!
