It was clear that Trump wanted to bomb Iran. And so he did. On Saturday, seven B-2 bombers flew over 7,000 miles to do just that. The result, according to Trump, was “total obliteration.”

How’d he know? Good question. The results wouldn’t be clear for quite some time. Yet, when the Defense Intelligence Agency estimation was prematurely quoted, it said the bombing had set back Iran’s nuclear program by only a few months.

Trump and his administration went apeshit, accusing the DIA and CNN, which leaked the assessment, of disparaging the character and competence of the pilots.

Now Trump is threatening to sue the New York Times and CNN for this reporting. Presumably Paul Weiss is handling that case as part of their pro bono obligation.

No one, of course, is questioning the bravery and skill of our pilots. And we all hope that they set the Iranian nuclear program as far behind as possible.

But this whole incident demonstrates why we have to flip Congress in 2026. So that Trump doesn’t have a complete lock on our foreign policy.

P.S. Trump’s “total obliteration” of the Iranian nuclear program is no doubt a total obliteration of the truth — something which Trump is an expert in.
