Will they? Won’t they?

The Trump administration’s relationship with a peace deal in Iran is starting to feel like Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. Or, as the kids on my team tell me, like Jen and Ben (that’s Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, by the way).

Will they? Won’t they?

One day we’re told a deal is imminent. The next day we’re told the conflict could drag on indefinitely. Then we’re told peace is just days away. And then, back to the bombs.

And somehow, despite all this happening in real time, administration officials keep talking in terms of weeks — just four to six more…weeks. Well it hasn’t been weeks. We’ve been at war with Iran for months

At some point, Congress should probably start doing its job and pass a War Powers Resolution, or cut off funding, or conduct some real oversight and investigations. But they won’t. That’s just one of many reasons why winning the midterms matters so much.

We need leaders who will ask tough questions and conduct real oversight. And that means not just electing Democrats, but electing the right Democrats.

November may be our only real shot at holding Trump and his collection of deeply unqualified, enthusiastically sycophantic war hawks accountable. So please donate to Midwest Values PAC so we can continue investing in the candidates who will help Democrats flip the House and the Senate and put actual guardrails back on power.

And at the end of all this I want to hear Trump explain how “we won this war”. Little things. Like how we depleted our missile stocks, I’m sure emboldening China. And of course, losing 14 of our service members with hundreds wounded — not to mention the thousands of Iranians killed and Lebanese, not just Hezbollah, but hundreds if not thousands of noncombatants.

I can’t wait to hear about all the winning.

P.S. We can’t hold this administration accountable unless Democrats win. So please consider donating to MVP today so we can put the folks in office who will stand up to reckless wars.

Somehow, it’s been 20 years since I started Midwest Values PAC to help Democrats win elections — from progressive organizations to state legislatures to Congress to the White House — who share the values I grew up with in St. Louis Park, Minnesota.

Since 2006, Midwest Values PAC has invested more than $4 million in 341 candidates and organizations — and counting.

Of course, none of this happens without you (or supporters like you) who care enough to pitch in.

As we mark our 20th anniversary, the work is more urgent than ever. This year, we have a big job: flip the House, take the Senate, and win up and down the ballot at the state and local level.

To mark our 20th year, we’ve set an ambitious goal: 26,000 contributions by Election Day 2026.

Thanks for being part of this fight, and for sticking with us for 20 years (or for just joining — welcome!).

P.S. Over the years, okay, decades, we’ve helped Democrats win tough races all across the country by investing early, intelligently, and strategically. That’s how you flip seats. That’s how you protect democracy. And that’s how you stop the worst impulses of a president who never should have been president in the first place.
