Trump’s or America’s birthday?

So I checked the calendar, and yes, July 4th is still America’s birthday. Not Donald Trump’s. Just wanted to clear that up before you read the rest of this email. 

Because somehow, the man is turning our nation’s 250th — 250th! — birthday celebration into what is shaping up to be a giant, taxpayer-funded party for himself. Military flyovers. A speech. A Ferris wheel. Spending millions on research to have fireworks shaped like his own face. Ok that last one is made up but I wouldn’t put it past him at this point.

Look, I love a parade. I love fireworks. I love a hot dog as much as the next guy. What I don’t love is a president treating a day that belongs to all Americans like it’s his own coronation. 

This is what happens when a guy who gave himself a military parade and a UFC fight on the White House lawn as a birthday-week gift gets four more years and zero shame. He’s not just rewriting the rules. He’s rewriting the holidays.

So as we celebrate this year, let’s not try to out-firework Trump, let’s out-organize him. Every dollar you send to Midwest Values PAC helps candidates and organizers working to build a Congress that can actually hold him accountable instead of handing him a bigger stage.
