We’re now on day 21 of a Republican-induced government shutdown — and let me tell you, it’s a doozy.
Republicans in Congress are doing absolutely nothing to prevent millions of Americans from losing their health care or having their premiums skyrocket. They won’t meet with Democrats. They won’t negotiate. They won’t even show up.
Meanwhile, here’s what’s been happening:
- Trump hosted billionaire donors to raise money for a $200 million White House ballroom (because apparently Mar-a-Lago wasn’t enough).
- The U.S. “loaned” $40 billion to Argentina — $40 billion could have funded two years of Affordable Care Act tax subsidies that Democrats are fighting to preserve. (It’s also $5 billion more than the entire annual USAID budget). Not to mention an even bigger F-you to our farmers.
- And, because there’s no bottom, the Department of Homeland Security bought two private Gulfstream jets for published puppy-killer Kristi Noem — for $172 million.
If you’re as angry as I am, here’s something you can do about it:
Donate to Midwest Values PAC to help me elect Democrats who believe the government should work for people — not billionaires.
Thanks,
Al
P.S. Yesterday, on the 20th day of the shutdown, crews started demolishing the East Wing to make room for that ballroom Trump promised “wouldn’t interfere” with the existing building. (Spoiler alert: it does.)
P.P.S.
