Last week President Trump fired the commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, claiming that she had “rigged” the new jobs numbers. Dr. Erika McEntarfer, who had been overwhelmingly confirmed by the Senate during the Biden administration, is out.
Trump fired Dr. McEntarfer after she released monthly jobs data showing surprisingly weak hiring in July and large downward revisions to the job growth in April and May.
There was no rigging, of course. But no one on the president’s team was willing to acknowledge that. Of course.
And whoever replaces Dr. McEntarfer will be expected to produce rosy job numbers going forward, jeopardizing our standing as an honest actor and the dollar as the world’s default currency.
Fabulous.
This is why the midterms will be so crucial if the US is going to protect our standing in the world.
The Senate confirms the president’s nominees, so it’s crucial that we pick up Senate seats. Midwest Values PAC has donated to North Carolina’s popular former two-term governor, Roy Cooper, who stands an excellent chance of taking Thom Tillis’s seat.
If we can take the Senate or at least reduce the Republican margin, we will stand a good chance of stopping Trump’s nominees to crucial positions in the executive branch.

P.S. And, of course, we can take the House, in spite of the Texas gerrymander. MVP supports Democratic states like California, New York, and Illinois fighting fire with fire. Donald Trump is turning our country into an autocracy, and it’s up to us to stop him.
