Once again, former and future President Donald Trump is Time magazine’s Person of the Year. That makes sense. I’m hoping against hope that next year’s Person of the Year will not be “The Deported Immigrant.”

We are just a little over a month away from Trump’s inaugural, and I know that will be a tough day for all of us. But I will force myself to watch. Because we can’t turn away from the fight.

At least I can’t.

Every time you see him on TV and think, “I can’t watch him,” know that I will. And there will be other Americans subjecting themselves to the living nightmare unfolding before us. Because stopping his administration from achieving the worst parts of his agenda will require constant vigilance.

Oh, who am I kidding? Look. I’ll be no good for the fights ahead of us if I drive myself crazy. I promise that I will be vigilant up to a point. But I won’t be any good to any of us if I go stark raving mad.

So, know that I will keep abreast of the events in the White House and Congress and the friggin’ Supreme Court. To a point.

P.S. Please know that I will be part of the Kennedy Center Honors broadcast on Sunday, December 22, which will air from 8:30 to 11 p.m. ET on CBS. This year’s honorees are Bonnie Raitt, Arturo Sandoval, The Apollo theater, Francis Ford Coppola, and the Grateful Dead. Guess which one I’ll be introducing?

Midwest Values PAC supports candidates & causes that share our values.

Somehow, it’s been 20 years since I started Midwest Values PAC to help Democrats win elections — from progressive organizations to state legislatures to Congress to the White House — who share the values I grew up with in St. Louis Park, Minnesota.

Since 2006, Midwest Values PAC has invested more than $4 million in 341 candidates and organizations — and counting.

Of course, none of this happens without you (or supporters like you) who care enough to pitch in.

As we mark our 20th anniversary, the work is more urgent than ever. This year, we have a big job: flip the House, take the Senate, and win up and down the ballot at the state and local level.

To mark our 20th year, we’ve set an ambitious goal: 26,000 contributions by Election Day 2026.

Thanks for being part of this fight, and for sticking with us for 20 years (or for just joining — welcome!).

P.S. Over the years, okay, decades, we’ve helped Democrats win tough races all across the country by investing early, intelligently, and strategically. That’s how you flip seats. That’s how you protect democracy. And that’s how you stop the worst impulses of a president who never should have been president in the first place.
