Not trying to scare you

So it turns out, state supreme court elections matter. A lot. Especially when it comes to protecting your right to vote.

Case in point: last week the Virginia Supreme Court voted 4-3 to overturn the results of an election because of a technical process issue, and nullified the will of over 3 million voters.

And that brings me to Georgia.

In less than a week, two seats on the Georgia Supreme Court are on the ballot, and Midwest Values PAC wants to max out to Democrats Jen Jordan and Miracle Rankin — the only two candidates in the race with strong records of standing up for voting rights and equal justice for all Georgians.

Now here’s the caveat. No justice has lost there in over 100 years since the races are usually uncontested. But this year, we are trying to defeat two of them.

That isn’t a scare tactic and here’s why: Democrats have been overperforming all year long. We’ve seen it in mayoral races in places like Boca Raton. We’ve seen it in state legislative special elections in Texas. Voters are paying attention, and they are fed up.

Which means these races are winnable — but you (or supporters like you) have to get involved. Please donate a few dollars right now to help MVP support Jen Jordan and Miracle Rankin in the final stretch.

Winning elections isn’t just about Congress or the White House anymore. Republicans figured that out a long time ago. That’s why they’ve spent decades targeting courts, state legislatures, school boards — every lever of power they can get their hands on.

We need to fight everywhere, too.

P.S. Georgia isn’t exactly famous for protecting voting rights. Remember when Donald Trump pressured Georgia officials to “find” 11,000 votes after he lost in 2020? Georgia’s courts played a major role in shielding him from accountability. And now, six years later, Trump’s administration is laying the groundwork for a fresh round of election interference by investigating election officials in Fulton County. These races matter more than people realize.

Somehow, it’s been 20 years since I started Midwest Values PAC to help Democrats win elections — from progressive organizations to state legislatures to Congress to the White House — who share the values I grew up with in St. Louis Park, Minnesota.

Since 2006, Midwest Values PAC has invested more than $4 million in 341 candidates and organizations — and counting.

Of course, none of this happens without you (or supporters like you) who care enough to pitch in.

As we mark our 20th anniversary, the work is more urgent than ever. This year, we have a big job: flip the House, take the Senate, and win up and down the ballot at the state and local level.

To mark our 20th year, we’ve set an ambitious goal: 26,000 contributions by Election Day 2026.

Thanks for being part of this fight, and for sticking with us for 20 years (or for just joining — welcome!).

P.S. Over the years, okay, decades, we’ve helped Democrats win tough races all across the country by investing early, intelligently, and strategically. That’s how you flip seats. That’s how you protect democracy. And that’s how you stop the worst impulses of a president who never should have been president in the first place.
