Did you hear about the special in VA?

There’s a special election in Virginia on April 21 that could determine whether Democrats have a viable path to winning back the House in 2026. 

No pressure! Just…the future of representative democracy.

Virginia voters can keep elections in the hands of the people, not politicians, by voting YES on a redistricting amendment. And a group called Virginians for Fair Elections is doing the hard work to make that happen: educating voters, countering a wave of nonsense, and making sure people actually show up to vote — and they need our help. Because, as always, the outcome will come down to turnout.

Early voting is already underway, and let’s just say the enthusiasm gap isn’t exactly working in our favor right now. Meanwhile, MAGA-funded misinformation is flooding TV, mailboxes, and social feeds — some of it so ridiculous you’d think it was satire. (It’s not.)

That kind of campaign doesn’t happen by accident. It’s funded. Strategically. Heavily. With one goal: blocking this amendment.

A new WaPo-Schar School poll shows warning signs that the outcome could go either way. This election will come down to who shows up. Which means this is one of those moments — short timeline, high stakes, genuinely consequential — where what we do right now matters.

The midterms are our #1 opportunity to take back power in Washington, and we cannot continue our work without your support.

P.S. You’ve probably noticed that Trump and Republicans aren’t exactly waiting around for voters to weigh in fairly anymore. They’ve been pushing mid-decade redistricting to lock in power before voters can have their say. Why? Because they know winning on merit is… not their strong suit.

Somehow, it’s been 20 years since I started Midwest Values PAC to help Democrats win elections — from progressive organizations to state legislatures to Congress to the White House — who share the values I grew up with in St. Louis Park, Minnesota.
