Earlier this month, my fourth grade teacher, Val Molin, passed away at the age of 91. Mrs. Molin was always my favorite and when I first started my run for the Senate back in 2007, she sent me a letter with a $25 donation to my campaign.
I got a hold of her and asked her to be in my first campaign ad, which was a big hit. After that, we stayed in touch over the years, and I wrote more about Mrs. Molin a bit back and the incredible role teachers play in all of our lives. You can read that here.
I’ll always remember Mrs. Molin and everything she taught me, most of all multi-digit multiplication and division. Oh… and to love learning!

P.S. Trump continues to attack education – even going as far as threatening to dismantle the Department of Education. Republicans in Congress have not pushed back. That is why the 2026 midterm elections are so critical – for our children and our future.
