Our first big test

In exactly two months, voters in New Jersey and Virginia will choose their next governors in the first major elections since Trump returned to the White House.

Thanks to your generosity (or the generosity of people like you), Midwest Values PAC is able to back both Democratic nominees — Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill in New Jersey and Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger in Virginia.

These races are going to be close, and their Republican opponents are as MAGA as they come.

These elections aren’t just about NJ and VA — they’re major bellwethers for the midterms and the future of the country. They’re also our first opportunity to deliver Trump and his GOP henchmen the electoral equivalent of a giant middle finger.

And we need to send that message loud and clear, because every day Trump’s been leaning further into authoritarianism — whether it’s sending the National Guard to LA and D.C., or trying to ban mail-in voting altogether. 

That’s why we need to elect strong Democratic governors who will stand up to Trump and fight back against the harm this administration is causing in our communities. 

If we’re going to stop Trump, we have to win elections. Local ones, state ones, national ones. All of them. And the more we can do this year to build up our party’s infrastructure and turn out voters, the more competitive we’ll be in next year’s midterm elections.

Whether you’re fed up, fired up, or (like me) both, now’s the time to get involved.

Somehow, it’s been 20 years since I started Midwest Values PAC to help Democrats win elections — from progressive organizations to state legislatures to Congress to the White House — who share the values I grew up with in St. Louis Park, Minnesota.

Since 2006, Midwest Values PAC has invested more than $4 million in 341 candidates and organizations — and counting.

As we mark our 20th anniversary, the work is more urgent than ever. This year, we have a big job: flip the House, take the Senate, and win up and down the ballot at the state and local level.
