Eighty-one years ago today American troops landed on the beaches of Normandy and helped turn the tide of World War II. It’s a powerful reminder of the true cost of freedom and the strength of international alliances.

It’s worth asking: Would America make the same stand today?

Last year, President Biden traveled to France to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day, standing alongside our allies — to pay tribute to the past and to reinforce the commitment to the values they fought for: democracy, freedom, and global cooperation.

This year, Donald Trump is back in the White House. And it’s quite obvious that the alleged “leader of the free world” doesn’t share those values.

Trump idolizes autocrats like Orbán, Putin, Bukele, Duterte, Kim Jong Un, and Erdoğan. Phew, that’s a list! And it’s terrifying.

There are so many reasons to help Midwest Values PAC: supporting progressive candidates, fighting for affordable health care, protecting voting rights. It seems a little grandiose to also add preventing a collapse of the world order to that list, but then again, here we are. Will the United States continue to lead a global alliance for democracy? Or abandon it in favor of strongman rule that Trump openly embraces?

It’s the reality of what’s at stake that keeps me writing these emails and dedicated to the work MVP is doing to elect Democrats this November and in the midterms. When you help us, we help candidates up and down the ticket who are committed to defending democracy at home and abroad.

Midwest Values PAC supports candidates & causes that share our values.

Somehow, it’s been 20 years since I started Midwest Values PAC to help Democrats win elections — from progressive organizations to state legislatures to Congress to the White House — who share the values I grew up with in St. Louis Park, Minnesota.

Since 2006, Midwest Values PAC has invested more than $4 million in 341 candidates and organizations — and counting.

Of course, none of this happens without you (or supporters like you) who care enough to pitch in.

As we mark our 20th anniversary, the work is more urgent than ever. This year, we have a big job: flip the House, take the Senate, and win up and down the ballot at the state and local level.

To mark our 20th year, we’ve set an ambitious goal: 26,000 contributions by Election Day 2026.

Thanks for being part of this fight, and for sticking with us for 20 years (or for just joining — welcome!).

P.S. Over the years, okay, decades, we’ve helped Democrats win tough races all across the country by investing early, intelligently, and strategically. That’s how you flip seats. That’s how you protect democracy. And that’s how you stop the worst impulses of a president who never should have been president in the first place.
