All for me and none for thee

What’s happening right now isn’t complicated. It’s corruption. Big, bold, out-in-the-open corruption.

The president and his family have leveraged his office to the tune of nearly $4 billion. We’re talking about a $400 million jet from Qatar. About $243 million in profits are tied to crypto deals involving the United Arab Emirates. Tens of millions more from real estate deals in Saudi Arabia.

And who’s investing? Large corporations. Foreign nationals. Even state actors. All are hoping to curry favor with the administration.

And don’t even get me started on the pardons!

No other president in our history has sought to profit from his office like this before. That Trump does it so shamelessly is the point. And it’s consistent with the audacious corruption of his entire presidency.

You know who else exhibits this kind of behavior? Authoritarians.

Meanwhile, the president has raised hundreds of millions more from wealthy donors and corporations for things like a ballroom, a presidential library, and — yes — a triumphal arch. (Nothing says “public servant” like a triumphal arch.)

And according to reporting, tens of millions intended for that library are… unaccounted for. Gone. Poof.

That’s why it’s so important that we win the midterms and take the House and Senate. So Democrats can hold real hearings, demand answers, and enforce the Constitution (especially that pesky little thing called the emoluments clause).

If you’re as fed up as I am, donate $10, $25, or whatever you can today so MVP can help to elect leaders who actually believe in transparency, accountability, and a government that works for people.

P.S. What are Republicans doing about this? Nothing. Unless you count some of the bills they’re pushing in the House like…minting a $250 bill with Trump’s face on it, or directing the NIH to conduct research on “Trump Derangement Syndrome.” Not a joke!

Somehow, it’s been 20 years since I started Midwest Values PAC to help Democrats win elections — from progressive organizations to state legislatures to Congress to the White House — who share the values I grew up with in St. Louis Park, Minnesota.

Since 2006, Midwest Values PAC has invested more than $4 million in 341 candidates and organizations — and counting.

Of course, none of this happens without you (or supporters like you) who care enough to pitch in.

As we mark our 20th anniversary, the work is more urgent than ever. This year, we have a big job: flip the House, take the Senate, and win up and down the ballot at the state and local level.

To mark our 20th year, we’ve set an ambitious goal: 26,000 contributions by Election Day 2026.

Thanks for being part of this fight, and for sticking with us for 20 years (or for just joining — welcome!).

P.S. Over the years, okay, decades, we’ve helped Democrats win tough races all across the country by investing early, intelligently, and strategically. That’s how you flip seats. That’s how you protect democracy. And that’s how you stop the worst impulses of a president who never should have been president in the first place.
