Trump got kicked out of my union

I was one of a few U.S. Senators who was a member of a union — actually, two unions: The Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA, which stands for the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of TV and Radio Artists.

Donald Trump was a member of that same union, SAG. But he was forced to resign after the January 6th attack on the Capitol. And in the year and a half since he returned to the White House, he’s shown exactly how he really feels about the rest of us who carry union cards:

  • In March 2025, Trump signed an executive order stripping collective bargaining rights from federal workers.
  • In August, he expanded it — wiping out union contracts at the Department of Defense, the VA, the EPA, Treasury, and more. All told, more than a million federal workers — roughly 84% of the unionized federal workforce — lost their right to bargain collectively.
  • He also gutted the National Labor Relations Board, the agency that’s supposed to protect workers’ right to organize, by illegally firing a sitting board member and leaving the Board without a quorum to function. (Yep, this one still blows my mind.)

And this administration’s NLRB has been dismissing workers’ unfair labor practice complaints at a rate we’ve never seen before.

Midwest Values PAC supports labor. We will keep supporting candidates who stand with workers, because unions built the middle class and we’re not going to let this administration dismantle them without a fight. I hope you can help us today.

Somehow, it’s been 20 years since I started Midwest Values PAC to help Democrats win elections — from progressive organizations to state legislatures to Congress to the White House — who share the values I grew up with in St. Louis Park, Minnesota.
