I know I usually write to you about the latest outrage out of Washington. And believe me, there’s no shortage of material.
But today I want to do something different. Right now, there are Democrats running for office who are saying things — important things, in their own voices.
Take Jon Ossoff in Georgia. Standing in a state Trump has won twice, he is telling crowds that greatness “flows not through our blood or our genes, but through our ideas.”
Or James Talarico in Texas, who has framed his whole campaign around one plain idea: “we have an affordability crisis because we have a corruption crisis.”
Up in Alaska, Mary Peltola doesn’t sugarcoat it: “It shouldn’t be this hard to get by in Alaska, and when I’m in the U.S. Senate, I’m going to fight to make life affordable for hardworking Alaska families.”
Roy Cooper, who has never lost a race in North Carolina, kept his campaign launch simple: “I’m running for the Senate to make life easier.”
Last but not least, Juliana Stratton in Illinois, fighting to raise the minimum wage and put it plainly: people “deserve to have a livable wage,” not just the dated minimum they’ve been stuck with since 2009.
Five candidates. Five different states. One thing in common: they’re not hedging or hiding their beliefs.
