The holidays are supposed to be a time for family, friends, and maybe a little too much of Franni’s apple pie. But they’re also a time to remember that not everyone is sitting down to a full table — and that looking out for one another is kind of the whole point of living in a society.

Right now, too many Americans are struggling to make ends meet. And that’s not an accident. The domestic and economic policies of — you know who — and his MAGA henchmen have made life harder for working families, even as Republicans pretend everything is just great.

Between rising food prices, a broader affordability crisis, and the largest SNAP cut in the program’s history, food insecurity in this country is getting worse, not better. We also saw during the government shutdown just how many hardworking Americans are living one unexpected expense away from real trouble — wondering how they’ll pay the bills or put food on the table.

The good news is that there are organizations doing truly important work to help. And if you’re able, I hope you’ll consider supporting one of them.

If you’re in Minnesota (or just want to support Minnesota — an excellent choice), I recommend The Good Acre. They buy food from small, often underrepresented farmers and donate it to food shelves across the state. It’s a win for farmers, a win for food shelves, and most importantly, a win for families who need help.

If you’d prefer to give directly to a food shelf with a broad statewide reach, The Food Group does outstanding work across Minnesota.

And if you’re looking to give in New York, City Harvest rescues food, buys locally, and redistributes it to food banks throughout the city.

None of us can fix this alone. But together, we can make sure fewer families are wondering where their next meal is coming from — especially during the holidays.

Thanks for being the kind of person who cares.

P.S. New restrictions on SNAP are projected to push millions of families off food assistance in the coming years. And Trump has already made clear he’s happy to cut even more people off — especially if they live in states that didn’t vote for him. Apparently, hunger is now a partisan issue. That makes the work of local food banks more important than ever.

Somehow, it’s been 20 years since I started Midwest Values PAC to help Democrats win elections — from progressive organizations to state legislatures to Congress to the White House — who share the values I grew up with in St. Louis Park, Minnesota.

Since 2006, Midwest Values PAC has invested more than $4 million in 341 candidates and organizations — and counting.

Of course, none of this happens without you (or supporters like you) who care enough to pitch in.

As we mark our 20th anniversary, the work is more urgent than ever. This year, we have a big job: flip the House, take the Senate, and win up and down the ballot at the state and local level.

To mark our 20th year, we’ve set an ambitious goal: 26,000 contributions by Election Day 2026.

Thanks for being part of this fight, and for sticking with us for 20 years (or for just joining — welcome!).

P.S. Over the years, okay, decades, we’ve helped Democrats win tough races all across the country by investing early, intelligently, and strategically. That’s how you flip seats. That’s how you protect democracy. And that’s how you stop the worst impulses of a president who never should have been president in the first place.
