Tim Walz

Worthington Daily Globe: Letter: Walz has ability to rise above partisanship

This weekend, Republican former Gov. Arnie Carlson crossed party lines to endorse Tim Walz for Congress.

In his endorsement speech, Gov. Carlson said many good things about Congressman Walz. But what struck me was Carlson’s emphasis on the need for leaders who can rise above partisanship and short-term pressures and put our nation’s long-term interests first — leaders like Tim Walz. Gov. Carlson accurately described Tim Walz as a man of honesty and integrity, a man who works hard to understand the issues facing our nation and one of the most outstanding leaders that Minnesota has.

Tim Walz says he’s running for re-election because he’s a voice of reason and compromise who’s been able to build a diverse coalition of supporters.

He said he’s delivering where it counted for veterans and for farmers. He brought a fresh voice to Congress and he didn’t have a political career before being elected to the U.S. House.

Star Tribune: Tim Walz Op-Ed: Tax cuts for the rich: Not a Minnesota value

In the past several years we have seen the toughest economic times in a generation, but I believe America’s best days are ahead of us.

Democratic Congressman Tim Walz, who represents much of southern Minnesota, has been endorsed by the national Veterans of Foreign Wars in his re-election bid. He’s being challenged in the 1st District by Republican Randy Demmer.

Walz, who has served more than 20 years in the National Guard, is the highest-ranking enlisted soldier to serve in Congress.

Daily Globe: Letter: Walz will keep working to help veterans

I am writing to urge veterans to support the re-election of Congressman Tim Walz. Congressman Tim has delivered for veterans while working for us in Washington, D.C.

In January 2008, Congress passed a law allowing National Guard and Reservists to receive retired pay early based upon war-time mobilization. This is a tremendous benefit for our citizen soldiers. I know because I have personally benefited from this legislation for my deployment to Iraq last year. Tim is working to extend this benefit to all that have been mobilized since Sept. 11, 2001.
