Tammy Duckworth

U.S. Congresswoman, Illinois

Tammy Duckworth is a combat-wounded Iraq War veteran. She lost both legs and part of the use of her right arm in that conflict and was awarded the Purple Heart. Tammy is the former Director of Illinois’ Department of Veterans’ Affairs, and in 2009, President Obama appointed her Assistant Secretary of Veterans Affairs. She oversaw the VA’s effort to end veteran homelessness and lead initiatives for female veterans. She is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Illinois Army National Guard.
