KIMT: Walz Speaks on Wind Energy

It’s becoming more common for our electricity to come from the wind.

Today more than 48,000 megawatts of the nation’s power comes from wind turbines. That’s up from 5600 just six years ago.

Experts credit much of the industry’s growth to the production tax credit, which gives incentives to clean energy manufacturers. The credit expires at the end of this year.

Now, bipartisan legislation in Congress is working to extend that. Representative Tim Walz said this is especially important in our area.

“This is the 5th largest wind generating district of the 435 in the United States. We’re leading in this, we’re creating jobs,” said Representative Walz.
