Advocate Tribune: Keeping Minnesota at work: Senator Klobuchar visits Granite Falls manufacturer SpecSys

In confronting the economic downturn, the United States would do well to bolster export efforts, says U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn.

“People have to start viewing this as a way out of this economic downturn,” she said. “Because it is.”

In many ways Minnesota gets it, and by riding the wave of its agriculture and manufacturing sectors has managed to stay ahead of the unemployment levels that have crippled much of the nation.

“In Minnesota agriculture saw a 22 percent increase in exports from 2009 to 2010 compared to 13 percent for the rest of the country,” Klobuchar pointed out. “That’s why our state is doing so much better … it’s because we are export focused.”
