Winona Daily News: Walz: Bill would help veterans find jobs

U.S. Rep. Tim Walz wants to offer tax credits to employers who hire veterans.

“We as a nation not only owe it to (veterans), but we owe it to the country to get them back into the work force,” Walz said Saturday during a stop in Winona. “These are our best employees and our most committed employees.”

Walz spoke at Peerless Chain Co., a business founded by veterans of World War I.

Current law allows businesses to receive tax credits for hiring veterans, but the credit is complicated and most veterans aren’t made aware of it, said Sara Severs, Walz’s press secretary.

“They’re coming back and entering one of the toughest job markets in generations,” she said.
