Wausau Daily Herald: Lassa says foreign trade laws are to blame for job losses

Democratic congressional candidate Sen. Julie Lassa stopped in Wausau today to announce her plans to maintain and create local jobs if elected in November.

Lassa said American workers are at a disadvantage under the North American Free Trade Agreement, but didn’t specify how the 1993 compact should be changed.

She also emphasized enforcing existing trade laws against Chinese market inflation and focusing on exports of American-made goods.

Lassa said giving businesses access to credit from local banks should be encouraged by the private sector through partnerships with chambers of commerce, banks and businesses.

Lassa, a state senator from Stevens Point, faces Republican Sean Duffy in November to replace Dave Obey as the representative for Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District. Both candidates easily defeated primary opponents Tuesday.
