Trading Markets: Ellison Secures $400,000 for Community Services for Battered Women
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Keith Ellison (DFL-Minneapolis) this week secured a $400,000 appropriation for The Phoenix Program-Assisting Battered Women, a service developed by Turning Point, Inc. of North Minneapolis. This program provides re-entry services to reunite female ex-offenders with their children. Turning Point will use the funds to help women obtain affordable housing, employment, and case management services. Research shows that re-entry programs reduce the likelihood of recidivism. For over 30 years, Turning Point has provided mental health and social services support to Twin Cities residents.
“When we give a second chance to mothers, we give a first chance to their children” Ellison said. “That’s why I’m proud to help Turning Point continue to turn lives around and give hope to struggling families and communities.”
