Mansfield News Journal: Lee Fisher benefit satisfies local Dems

MANSFIELD — A small group of Mansfield residents got to know U.S. Senate candidate Lee Fisher a little better at a local benefit on Saturday.

About 50 people attended the fundraiser at the home of Mansfield city councilwoman Ellen Haring.

Fisher, who’s running a distant second to GOP challenger Rob Portman in recent polls, touched on his political and personal experiences and what he hoped to accomplish in Congress. The lieutenant governor is seeking to replace Republican Sen. George Voinovich, who’s retiring.

Haring said Fisher, a Democrat, had a warm demeanor and those who’d gathered to meet him Saturday were pleased with what he had to say.

“He talked about an array of issues, but development and creating jobs in particular,” she said late Saturday. “He is very interested in technology and what jobs might be created in the future.”
