Harry Reid was born and raised in the desert mining town of Searchlight, Nevada. He grew up poor in a small cabin without an indoor toilet and paid for law school by working nights as a Capitol Police Officer. He understands what’s it’s like to struggle. It’s what drives him every day as he works to ensure that all Americans have the same opportunities for success that he has had despite his humble upbringings.
As the Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid is fighting to create those opportunities by moving our country forward, past the failed economic policies of the previous administration. He’s working to put Americans back to work by ensuring our country leads the world in job-creating clean energy technology. He championed the health insurance reform law that is finally making quality, affordable health insurance a reality for all Americans. He strongly believes that making higher education more accessible is an investment in our nation’s future, critical for preparing the next generation to compete for the jobs of the 21st Century. And he will continue leading the fight to protect America’s seniors by blocking any attempt to privatize Social Security.
