Elizabeth Warren says she “came up the hard way…out of a hard-working middle class family in an America that created opportunities for kids like me.” She has made her life’s work fighting for middle class families. The Boston Globe calls her “… the plainspoken voice of people getting crushed by so many predatory lenders and under regulated banks.” TIME magazine has called her a “New Sheriff of Wall Street” and has twice included her among America’s 100 most influential people. She’s taken on big banks and financial institutions to win historic new financial protections for middle class families.

In the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis, Elizabeth served as Chair of the Congressional Oversight Panel for the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP). Her independent and tireless efforts to protect taxpayers, to hold Wall Street accountable, and to ensure tough oversight of both the Bush and Obama Administrations won praise from both sides of the aisle. The Boston Globe named Elizabeth Bostonian of the Year in 2009 for her oversight efforts.

She is widely credited for the original thinking, political courage, and relentless persistence that led to the creation of a new consumer financial protection agency, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. She led the establishment of the agency, building the structure and organization to hold accountable even trillion-dollar financial institutions and to protect consumers from financial tricks and traps often hidden in mortgages, credit cards and other financial products.

Elizabeth and her husband Bruce Mann, who was born and grew up in the Boston area, have been married for 31 years and now have three grandchildren. They live in Cambridge with their golden retriever, Otis.

Throughout her career, Tammy Baldwin has never forgotten who she works for, that every voice matters, and through hard work and determination one person can always make a difference.

A forward-looking leader, Tammy voted against going to war in Iraq, and she is pushing to end the war in Afghanistan that has gone on far too long. Tammy was also one of the few members of Congress to vote against repealing the Glass-Steagall Act, which would have prevented Wall Street and the big banks from making the risky investments that led to our financial collapse.

In 1999, Tammy became the first woman elected to Congress from Wisconsin, and also the first openly gay person to run and win as a first time candidate. She is a national leader on civil rights and equality issues, a leader in the fight for expanded access to quality, affordable health care, and a powerful advocate for women’s health care and women’s rights, our veterans, and investing in the clean energy economy and renewable fuels.

Tammy is running for the U.S. Senate to ensure the voices of the people will be heard above the special interests. She is a tireless leader we can trust to fight for jobs and stand up for middle class families and working men and women.

Pat’s commitment to working families comes from his parents. His father, an Army veteran, trained troops heading to Iraq before his retirement. Pat’s mother worked multiple jobs to raise her four children and lift them off welfare and food stamps. Financial aid and hard work helped Pat become his family’s first college graduate. While studying journalism at UW-Eau Claire, he met his wife, Sharry, who is a well-respected physician. They have two daughters and a grandson.

Pat anchored the region’s #1 newscast for many years before continuing his public service in the Wisconsin legislature. As a State Senator, Pat closed the state’s biggest corporate tax loophole so tax dollars could be used for job creation, education and health care. He expanded health care coverage to thousands of Wisconsinites who lost their jobs or whose employers canceled their insurance and he reworked state funding formulas to give more resources to rural schools.

In Congress, Pat will work to create new jobs, help our small businesses, end unfair trade deals and close loopholes that reward corporations for sending jobs overseas. He’ll invest in new, alternative energy sources to lessen our dependence on foreign oil. Pat will be a strong supporter of Social Security and Medicare, opposing efforts to privatize it or turn it into a voucher system. And he’ll eliminate wasteful spending and work to reduce the deficit in a fair and balanced way.

Sherrod Brown was born and raised in Mansfield, Ohio. He played basketball and baseball in high school and loves the Cleveland Indians. His father was a small-town doctor and his mother taught her sons to fight for what was right.

Sherrod has earned a reputation as an independent voice for working Ohioans and middle-class families. He is a man of principle who has made a career of standing up to special interests in Washington. In 2006, Ohio voters elected Sherrod to the United States Senate with one of the largest margins over an incumbent in U.S. history.

Since his election, Sherrod has been working on behalf of Ohioans to stop the erosion of jobs in Ohio due to the wrong-headed trade and economic policies of the past. Sherrod has stood up to Presidents of both parties to fight against trade agreements that don’t provide American workers and businesses with a level playing field.

On the Banking Committee, he was an early proponent for addressing the crisis in our housing markets that began by devastating neighborhoods throughout Ohio and ended up causing a meltdown throughout the world’s credit markets. He is fighting to ensure that efforts to rebuild the economy focus on Main Street as well as Wall Street, and that the federal government gives as much attention to manufacturing as it does to finance. Sherrod also refused to accept the congressional health care plan until affordable health insurance was available to Ohioans. And he continues to fight insurance company and pharmaceutical company lobbyists in order to make health care more affordable for seniors, workers, and small businesses.

Sherrod currently resides in Avon, Ohio with his wife Connie Schultz, a Pulitzer winning columnist for the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Sherrod and Connie have three daughters, a son, a daughter-in-law, and a grandson.

Congressman Keith Ellison has represented Minnesota’s Fifth Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives since taking office on January 4, 2007. His policy agenda is based on four key priorities—peace, prosperity for working families, environmental sustainability, and support for civil and human rights. He is currently serving his third term.

The Fifth Congressional District encompasses the entire city of Minneapolis as well as surrounding suburbs. It is known as the most vibrant and ethnically diverse District in Minnesota, with over eighty languages spoken throughout the District.

Keith is one of Congress’ foremost progressive leaders. His colleagues elected him co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus for the 112th Congress. He has consistently stood up for job creation, progressive tax rates, health care for all, workers’ rights, a clean environment, quality education, fair trade, strong consumer protections, and greater investment in infrastructure.

Keith is committed to strengthening our neighborhoods through community organization and advocacy. His entire adult life has been spent bringing communities together – whether it is advocating for a better business climate or giving a voice to those who deserve to be heard. His philosophy is one of generosity and inclusiveness – because there are enough resources in our communities for everyone to prosper.

In 2006 the people of Minnesota elected Amy Klobuchar to be their U.S. Senator, making her the first woman elected to represent the State of Minnesota in the United States Senate. As the former chief prosecutor in Hennepin County, Minnesota’s largest county, and now as Senator, Amy has brought the values she learned growing up in Minnesota to her work every day. Her grandfather worked 1,500 feet underground in the iron ore mines of Northern Minnesota. Her father, Jim, was a newspaperman, and her mother, Rose, was an elementary school teacher who was still teaching a classroom of thirty second-graders at age seventy. Throughout her career, Amy has taken those Minnesota values to heart to get results.

Since arriving in the Senate, Amy has been a strong advocate for middle-class families and Minnesota values on the critical issues facing our nation: from promoting long-term economic growth and job creation to bringing fiscal responsibility and accountability to Washington, from supporting our Minnesota businesses, workers, and farmers to developing homegrown energy.

In the Senate, Amy took the lead on passing the most significant consumer product safety legislation in a generation, keeping foreign toxic products off our shores and out of our stores. She acted quickly to obtain full funding to replace the I-35W bridge, the eight-lane highway that was rebuilt in a record nine months after tragically falling into the Mississippi River. She introduced legislation to secure health and education benefits for our nation’s veterans. She took on the cell phone companies for more consumer-friendly policies. And she helped pass the most sweeping ethics reform since Watergate.

Amy is known as a hard worker determined to get results, and has taken the lead on passing several bipartisan bills and amendments into law, including legislation supported by consumer and industry groups to ban foreign wood products containing formaldehyde, as well as bills providing for safe disposal of prescription drugs, simplifying adoption, banning lead in children’s toys, allowing small-town bankers to maintain their voice within the Federal Reserve, and helping improve early detection and treatment of breast cancer in young women.

The Washington Post has described Amy as “a rising star,” while the Star Tribune reported on her substantial progress, calling her “a fast-moving legislator.” Working Mother Magazine named her as a 2008 “Best in Congress” for her efforts on behalf of working families.
