Immigration And Socialism
“Bush sides with business leaders who want legislation to let some of the estimated 12 million undocumented immigrants stay in the country and work for a set period of time. Others, including Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, say national security concerns should drive immigration reform.”
http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/nation/20060325-1757-immigrationrallies.html
12 million Undocumented Immigrants.. Imagine if we could get all these people to pay taxes.. Whats the average amount of tax people pay? I don’t know.. Lets use 1000 as a round estimate just for numbers sake. Thats a shitload of money.. 12,000,000×1000= 12,000,000,000 (laugh that number exceeds the maximum number of digits for my cellphone calc.) That looks about right though… Alot of fuckin money.
Now if you really want to get into it.. When the US entered into the North American Free Trade agreement with Mexico, In order to grease the wheels so to speak the Mexican government reneged on a land agreement they had with their Indigenous populations. This agreement held that these people would not be taxed on land they used for communal sustiance. This land was not farmed commercially, but as a livelyhood for Mayan familes. Upon the change in legislation, many of the indeginous peoples in southern mexico lost their farmlands to commercial developers who were able to pay the taxes but using the land for commercial Farming. This pushed the indigenous peoples further and further into the rain forest and further on to less viable farmland. There was a huge protest lead by Subcomandante Marcos and the Zapatistas to restore this communal land to its rightfull owners who demonstrated in the 1920’s through original documents predating the spanish conquistadors that this land was rightfully owned by the Mayan people. NO provisions were made for these people. In the United states Native amaericans now have protected lands, their own governing bodies, tribal police forces, and tribal socal services such as health care that is provided to them through their respective tribal affiliations. Mexico has none of this. They have poor Mayan Indians who are having their land stolen from them.
Just a brief Synopsis of Mexican Indigenous Politics..: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zapatista_Army_of_National_Liberation
The events on January 1, 1994 Highlighted the hardships that many mexicans are working to escape from. These local communities work on a cargo system, in which the community will lend individuals money on the condition that it be paid back to the community. The family sometimes must leave the community to earn enough money to repay the Cargo they have borrowed. This brings them to the United States. Aside from the living conditions and other hardships they face, these people are still trying to care for their home communities. These people have enough to deal with trying to live under the mexican govenrmental reign, much less being denied civil liberties in the United States.
The truth is, We need them. We need them to contribute to the tax base to fund social programs such as health care and social security. Having 12million people in this country essentially working under the table is whats hurting us. The Medical Community suffers because no one can pay outrageous medical bills. We NEED socialized healthcare to pay the doctors off. No one person can pay this kind of bill, and taxing a wider base of people will relieve the pressure on the public as a whole. I am just 1 mind, But it all seems simple enough to me.. We help them have a better life.. They help us have better quality of lives as well.
Those are my thoughts.

On an AOL message board, Hakumele wrote:
Americans are not stupid; they will throw out the Republicans in Congress in November because of all the Bush/Cheney lies.
I replied: I hope you are right. Unfortunately, the Republicans will lie, cheat, steal, and sell their souls to win an election. An excellent book on the subject is “The Truth (with jokes)” by Al Franken. He is more widely known as a comedian, but in this book he lays out the facts like a scholar. We can only hope that the truth will out this time around.
I graciously provided the link to Mr. Franken web site.
I also provided links to two of my web sites.
I am not reticent.

Forgive me if this is old news as I’m new to this site.. but has anyone read the Wikipedia profile of Bill O’reilly?
It’s very.. well.. let’s just say it feels like a warm fuzzy hug with a creepy uncle who holds on to long.
Who ever submitted it left it open for editing.
Silly oversite

Recent comments by President Bush offering concern toward the gas crisis are disingenuous and insincere.
The current gas crisis is right in line with the Bush agenda to drill in the Arctic National Refuge. I believe the high price of gas play directly into his plan to break down Americans who are against the drilling in the Arctic National Refuge, changing popular opinion to one of pro drilling.
Just as his personal and business ties to the Saudi Royal family been in direct conflict of interest of national security, so have most of his decisions made during this presidency been laced with a slant toward personal gain.
History will show that George Bush has been allowed to undermine national security and put every American at risk for personal gain, during his reign as President of the United States.
Thank you

I’ve heard Al is thinking about running for the Senate to represent Minnesota. GO FOR IT, AL! I live in Wisconsin and that’s close enough to Minnesota to feel the effects of a good Senator in Washington. In fact, there’s not a state in the union too far away from Minnesota too feel the effect from a good Senator.

Annexation of Mexico, although not an origional idea, would solve immigration and out-sourcing, reduce drug interdiction and provide a new “Louisiana Purchase” of exploitable resources including oil and beaches. Is there precedent for this? We already know how to water deserts, and Cheney could have Haliburton update Mexico’s infrastructure. This would give us something to do instead of taking on the evil axis, which is going to happen if dems don’t pull off the November elections.

The three major issues for the 2006 election:
1) Healthcare
2 )Healthcare
3) Healthcare

I am a US citizen living in Australia. I am quite disturbed about the mix of religious fundamentalism, irresponsible foreign adventurism, disregard of international cooperation and organizations built by former administrations, lack of regard for environmental consideration, subservience to oil and other corporate interests, fiscal irresonponsibility and paranoid secrecy which characterize the current administration.
— Milton David Fisher May 2, 07:19 AM #
I am a US citizen with a Spanish decent. I am amaze by the disregard this administration is giving to issues like emigration reform, Irak war, and more important I am embarrass the we let this president and its administration the power to choose what document to declassified in order to help there issues. The CIA leak is a perfect example of the way this administration behaves in a MAFIA STYLE presidency.

Dear Al,
I read in the Bible that sooner will a camel get through the eye of a needle than a rich man get to heaven. Does this mean that all the rich Christian MEN are going to hell, but their wives can still go to heaven? Or, did someone downsize camels so they can fit through the needle?
— The Blue Patriot May 3, 09:38 AM #
Don’t believe what you read in the Bible ! It was written about 200 yrs after the supposed death of a MAN named Jesus. Read the Nag Hammadi Library or the Gnostic Bible. I just finished “The Jesus Papers” I’ve read most of the books on that same subject. It’s fascinating to find out the TRUTH. I don’t believe in organized religion and I personally think that religious fanactics are the root of all evil! It needs to be taken out of politics.

I am reading your book Truth, and I am finding it a fascinating stroll through the muck of recent history. It makes reliving it all somehow more palatable – like listening to the 2004 RNC as filtered through Air America.
One criticism, however:
I would strongly recommend using the term “anti-choice” instead of “pro-life”, rhetorical terminology that grates like fingernails on a blackboard, and reinforces a moral falacy that in recent years has contributed to give zealots a moral high ground that they don’t deserve. I resent any implication, however unitended, that my pro-choice stand makes me anti-life, or even pro-abortion for that matter. Of course I’m still looking for the bumper sticker “Choice = Life”.
But thanks for writing this valuable book (and all else that you do). You have a unique way of cutting through alot of crap to tell it like it is.
— Wendell Green May 9, 11:47 AM #
After reading this CRAP it is very obvious that you people belong on Jerry Sprnger and with the IDIOT CULT of Alfred Frankinstien. WOW! No wonder we keep winning elections. Hey. Im a 14 year old hippie in Atlanta. I was watching the O’Reilly factor today, and I decided that I should e-mail him with some fake hate mail, even though I hate him. But, when I tried to email him, it said that I had to become a “premium member” in order to email him, and in order to become one, you have to pay him either $5 a month or $50 a year. Just thought I’d let you know, in case you wanted to rip on him for making people pay money to look at his website and email him, kind of showing that he’s just a wee bit greedy.
By the way, I agree with Julie, FOX SUCKS

Al –
Just heard you on Air America regarding Wal Mart and their effects on local communities. Specifically, I wanted to add something about this.
About a year ago, my husband and I were house-hunting in Bella Vista, Arkansas – a “retirement”/”resort” community near Bentonville, global corporate home of Wal-Mart.
Anyway… I found out that Wal-Mart requires EVERY single vendor rep to become a resident of Benton County. Interesting. They won’t contribute to the communities they build in, yet they demand you contribute to theirs by becoming a resident.
On a side note – we decided to move Vancouver, Washington, which proved to be a wiser choice.
P.S. I was inches from buying a home until I found this out – in fact the house we were thinking of making an offer on was NEXT DOOR to one of the CEO’s for Wal-Mart. Talk about being too close to comfort…

After reading three different versions in Wikipedia of where Bill O’Reilly grew up and looking at his “Deed” in Levittown, I decided to help out Bill by verifying his story. We went to the local library, called up the 1958 Nassau County phone book, and found Bill O’Reilly senior listed – as a resident of Westbury. Not Levittown. Oops

Mr. Franken,
I saw you the other night on David Letterman. You did not live up to his indroduction at all. Witty-only half right, intelligent-maybe somewhere, bright-only in a very small room. Oh, yes, you are also humerous-in your mind this only seems to involve ridiculing your wife. Your skills at political analysis: George Bush is a jerk. It is no wonder the left cannot get the foothold that the right has in talk radio. You are one of the best things the right has going for it!!!
— Roger Fredrickson Jun 8, 02:00 PM #
Dear Al, I have just read a book by Paul William Roberts called “War Against Truth.” Mr Roberts is a Canadian who writes for Harpers and other periodicals as well as an author of books. Briefly, the book I am talking about is about his experiences as an un-imbedded reporter in Iraq during the first 6 months or so of the current action there. The book is both sad and at times very humerous. The humor is of a dark sort, just to your liking. Because of his truthfull reporting Mr Roberts is not allowed in the US as per DHS. If you would like his email addy please contact me at my email addy and I will pass it along to you. I have not heard Mr Roberts interviewed on any Air America program nor on NPR. I think that he would be an excellent interview on the Al show.
By the way ignore the jerk in the message above this one. He obviously just got a new radio which finally allows him to listen to something besides el rushbo. Funny how these folks complain and hate but seem to be able to quote you and critique your show, hmmmm?
I do love your show but I hate when you eat and talk while on the air, that is not entertaining.
Grins!
Gary
PS from one Deadhead to anotha, Muchas Garcias Amigo!

“BITE ME !!” hmm…. Great arguments! And wow, I had no idea I was so powerful to be the sole problem with America. I STILL see no valid solutions being offered to your complaints, (which is normal for all Liberal lefties) So it is to be expected.
I think the guy above was talking about him being on David Letterman, NOT from hearing his radio noshow.
Also, Sandra, anyone with a brain knows that it is EDUCATION that determines wages NOT one man. I suggest you get out more, maybe go to a local community college, ANYTHING to increase the knowledge (or lack of) that you appear (not) to have. As for the gas problem, I suggest you sell your ford taurus, they were not built to pull mobile homes. No wonder you pay so much.
Good Day!
I leave you with this thought, again,
STOP WHINNING !!!

The worst thing that is destroying my community and all other minority communities is gang violence. Gangs are being glamorized and lionized by corporate Music and other media. Gangsterism is spreading even to other countries. No matter how much money is given to social or educational programs the problem will grow. That is because no one talks about how the corporate media is not reporting how ignorant and horrible Gangsterism is. At one time Gangsterism was a only a small part of my community, but now it is growing as it is now considered “cool” to be a criminal and thug. Our leaders in the minority community are blaming racism and economics, but it is because the media is getting rich off the misery of people of color. Now a days education in the minority communities is considered “acting white”. This is true and education is the only way for our people to advance themselves. Remember Gangsters don’t vote and don’t educate themselves about the what is good for the community.

Hey Al, why don’t you ask your guest(s) who want the USA to have a military presence in Iraq in perpetuity the following: If the new democratic Iraqi Parliament, the Iraqi PM and Iraqi President all agree and pass a resolution that asks the USA to leave Iraq – do we leave?
— JerryG Jun 22, 01:27 PM #
Dear Al,
Really enjoyed your latest book. Also liked your last one. I was amused, appalled, and energized to join your efforts. If only a small percentage of what you said really is “The Truth,” hopefully other people like you will get the word out and everyone will listen. I am totally convinced that we need to do all we can to defeat Bush and the right wing Republicans.
I am a 45 yr old lifelong Democrat. So you are “preaching to the choir.” Hopefully your book will change some people’s beliefs.
I am also a lifelong Al Franken fan. I loved your work with SNL. And I once saw you in person when you and Tom Davis hosted the Grateful Dead Halloween concert at Radio City. What a blast!!
Keep on givin’ us the truth Al.

Dear Al for you ammendment ideas
How about every time the Pres. or
V.P. tells a lie, we raise the Flag at
1/2 mast, or better yet upside down
to show America is in morning or
in a state of emergency.

Greetings,
I just finished Lies and suggest an extension of the book’s powerful message. Google video gives us the opportunity to upload clips; why not upload clips of lies, pulled from press footage and point them out as such, drawing attention to interesting patterns – republican or democrat, it seems it would be fun for the whole family—oh, and it would increase accountability in government… that’s probably good, too.
I hereby unburden my conscience of this project and leave it in the able hands of this community.
Cheers,
-Justin

I am a fan of Al and have read most of his books. I am proud to be the minority in my town. An open minded and accepting person.
Has anyone heard the news about Gitmo?

Dear Al, Why don’t we raise a little hell over the new energy bill?? One of the advisors during the meetings with Dick Halliburton Cheney was Ken Lay- a convicted felon. His conviction was set aside however we should take up a petition to repeal that part of the energy bill which was his contribution. Congress is doing absolutely nothing and if you think Enron’s billions of dollars in losses is a lot what do you think the entire population will be paying for Ken Lay’s input to our energy bill. Please start a petition. We will generate sufficient signatures to wake up our sleeping Congress and maybe even take back both houses this November. How about it Al???

— Rose Jul 27, 03:14 PM #
In reading the retarded comment by scott, I must say that all the discussion in the world really doesn’t matter. When you get down to it, simply compare the nation to democratic rule and republican rule. Starting from the great depression. It started during and after Hoover, a republican. Was cleaned up by FDR, a Democrat. Of course Nixon needs no mention. The Regan and Bush company…...6 trillion deficit changed to 600 billion surplus by Mr. Clinton, a democrat. Now we have…..12 trillion, gas prices through the roof….the arab world hating Americans more each day. Oh yea the war! History speaks the truth which is undeniable regardles of what your church paster and Sean tells you!
